Lip filler in Dubai is the most requested injectable treatment and the one most often done badly — not because the technique is difficult, but because too much product, placed too often and too superficially, produces the recognisable result nobody actually asks for. What Filler Can and Cannot Change

Migration: The Problem Everyone Recognises and Few Explain

Migration is filler moving beyond where it was placed, most commonly upward above the upper lip border, where it creates a raised shelf and the flattened, elongated appearance patients describe as looking odd without being able to say why. It is the single most common bad outcome in lip treatment, and it is largely preventable.

Four things cause it. Too much product for the tissue to hold. Placement too superficial, particularly right at or above the border. Topping up too frequently, before previous product has resolved, so volume accumulates unnoticed. And the wrong product — firmer, more structural fillers designed for cheeks or jawlines behave badly in lips, which need softer, more flexible gels.

Consequently we use products formulated for lips, place conservatively within the lip body rather than perched on the border, and space treatments properly. We also examine what is already there. If you have migrated filler, adding more on top makes it worse, and the honest recommendation is usually to dissolve first, let things settle, and rebuild from a clean baseline. That is not the answer most patients hope for, but it is the one that produces a good result.

Volume and Proportion

For a first treatment we generally recommend 0.5 ml. It is enough to produce a visible, natural improvement, it lets us see how your lips respond and metabolise product, and it leaves room to add at review if you want more. A full syringe in previously untreated lips is more than most people need to start with.

On proportion: the lower lip is conventionally a little fuller than the upper, and pushing the upper lip beyond its natural proportion is what starts to look artificial. That said, ideal proportion varies considerably between individuals and across ethnicities, and applying a single ratio to every face is how you get lips that look correct in isolation and wrong on the person. If You Get Cold Sores, Tell Us Before Booking

This is specific to lips and worth its own section. Injection can reactivate the herpes simplex virus in people who carry it, and an outbreak in freshly treated lips is both uncomfortable and, occasionally, a cause of scarring or poor healing.

If you have ever had a cold sore — even once, even years ago — tell us at consultation. We can arrange antiviral prophylaxis to start before treatment, which substantially reduces the risk. . We would also postpone treatment if you have an active or healing cold sore, however inconvenient the timing.

Swelling: More Than You Are Expecting

Lips swell more than any other area treated with filler, and patients who have had cheek or jawline treatment are regularly caught out. Expect significant swelling peaking at 24 to 48 hours, often looking considerably fuller and less even than the intended result, settling substantially over three to five days and fully by around two weeks.

Two consequences follow. First, do not judge your result in the first week — the lips you see on day two are not the lips you will keep. Second, book at least two to three weeks before any event, and never the week before a wedding. We review at two weeks precisely because that is the first point at which the result can be honestly assessed.

Aftercare

For the first 24 to 48 hours, apply a cool pack gently if it helps, sleep slightly elevated, and avoid pressing or massaging the lips unless we instruct you otherwise. Skip makeup and lip products on the treatment day. Avoid the gym, sauna, steam room and swimming for 48 hours, along with very hot drinks and spicy food while the lips feel tender.

Small lumps and unevenness in the first week are usually swelling rather than the product, and they typically resolve. Avoid dental treatment for around two weeks where possible, since dental procedures are associated with delayed inflammatory reactions around filler. How Long It Lasts

Lip filler generally lasts six to twelve months, which is shorter than most facial areas, because lips move constantly and product is metabolised faster there. Some patients metabolise more quickly still.

A note on top-ups: because some product often persists longer than expected, treating on a fixed calendar quietly accumulates volume. We assess what remains before adding rather than assuming it has gone, which is the practical safeguard against gradual overfilling.

On Treating Younger Patients

We take a cautious position here, and we would rather state it than have the conversation only in the room. Lips continue to develop into the early twenties, and requests from very young patients are frequently driven by social media rather than by anything about their own face. Our approach with younger patients is to talk first, treat conservatively if at all, and decline where the request seems to be about something other than the lips themselves. We will not treat anyone under 18.

Dissolving

Hyaluronic acid lip filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, which is a genuine advantage of HA products. We dissolve for migration, for overfilled lips, for lumps that will not settle, and for patients who simply want to start again.

Realistically, though, it is a process rather than an instant reset. Lips look deflated and sometimes uneven for a few weeks afterwards, more than one session is occasionally needed, and we would then wait several weeks before rebuilding. If you are unhappy with work done elsewhere, come and be assessed — we will tell you honestly whether dissolving, waiting or leaving things alone is the better option.

Who Should Not Have It

Treatment is avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with an active or healing cold sore, with active infection or inflammation around the mouth, and where there is known allergy to any component including lidocaine.

These require discussion first: previous filler in the lips including anything placed elsewhere, autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, immunosuppression, anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy, a keloid tendency, previous adverse reaction to filler, and recent or planned dental work or vaccination. Be cautious with very low prices in this category. Product provenance varies, unregistered filler circulates in markets with high demand, and lips are highly visible if something goes wrong.
