Mesotherapy for hair in Dubai is widely advertised, and we would rather begin with the part most clinics leave out: hair loss has causes, and injecting a scalp before identifying them is expensive guesswork. Scalp mesotherapy delivers vitamins and other ingredients into the scalp skin through fine microinjections, and it can play a useful supporting role. It is not, however, a first step. At Dermabloom Medical Center in Mirdif, Dr Sarah Magdy establishes why you are losing hair first, usually with blood work, and only then discusses whether mesotherapy belongs in your plan. Why Diagnosis Comes First
Several quite different conditions produce hair that looks and feels the same to the person losing it. Each responds to different treatment, and some resolve without any.
| Cause | How it typically presents | What actually helps |
|---|---|---|
| Androgenetic (pattern) loss | Gradual thinning at the crown or temples, or a widening part | Medical treatment is the mainstay; mesotherapy may support it |
| Telogen effluvium | Sudden diffuse shedding, often 2–3 months after an illness, crash diet, surgery or childbirth | Usually resolves once the trigger passes |
| Iron deficiency | Diffuse thinning with fatigue; low ferritin on testing | Correcting the deficiency |
| Thyroid dysfunction | Diffuse thinning with other systemic symptoms | Treating the thyroid condition |
| Traction alopecia | Loss along the hairline or wherever tension is applied | Reducing tension early, before it becomes permanent |
| Alopecia areata | Discrete round or oval bald patches | An autoimmune condition needing specific medical treatment |
Notice how little of that column on the right is mesotherapy. That is the honest picture, and it is why we start with an examination and tests rather than a treatment package.
The Blood Work We Usually Arrange
Testing turns guesswork into a plan, and it frequently identifies something correctable. Depending on your history and examination, we typically arrange a full blood count and ferritin, thyroid function, vitamin D, vitamin B12 and zinc, together with a hormonal profile where the pattern or history suggests it is relevant. Women with irregular cycles, acne or unwanted hair growth alongside scalp thinning are often investigated further, since polycystic ovary syndrome is common and treatable.
Results change the plan meaningfully. A patient with a ferritin of 12 needs iron correction rather than a course of scalp injections, and no amount of mesotherapy substitutes for that.
If You Have Just Had a Baby, Read This First
Postpartum shedding is one of the most common reasons women come to us about hair, and it is also the situation in which the wrong advice costs the most. Hair loss beginning two to four months after childbirth is usually telogen effluvium, a shift in the hair cycle triggered by the pregnancy. In the great majority of cases it recovers on its own over roughly six to twelve months.
Therefore we generally do not recommend starting an expensive treatment course at that point. What we do recommend is checking iron and thyroid function, since both are commonly affected after pregnancy and both are correctable, and then reviewing after a few months. Some clinics will happily sell a package during this window. We would rather see you again in three months and confirm that your hair is already recovering.
What Scalp Mesotherapy Involves
The treatment consists of a series of very superficial injections placed across the thinning areas of the scalp, delivering a preparation of vitamins, amino acids, peptides and hyaluronic acid . The reasoning is that supporting the scalp environment supports the follicles growing within it.
Appointments are short, generally 20 to 30 minutes, and no numbing is usually required, although the scalp is more sensitive in some people than others. A course of sessions is needed rather than a single treatment.
An Honest Comparison of the Options
| Option | Evidence | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Topical minoxidil | Well established | First-line for pattern loss; needs consistent long-term use |
| Oral prescription treatment | Well established for suitable patients | Requires medical assessment and monitoring; options differ for men and women |
| PRP | Reasonable, growing | Uses your own blood; a course plus maintenance |
| Mesotherapy | Weaker and more variable | Best viewed as supportive alongside the above |
| Correcting deficiencies | Strong, where a deficiency exists | Often the cheapest and most effective single step |
Read that table before you spend anything. If you have pattern hair loss and have not yet tried established medical treatment, starting with mesotherapy is putting the supporting act first. We will tell you that in consultation, even though the injections are the more profitable option for us.
Where Mesotherapy Genuinely Fits
- Alongside medical treatment — as a supportive measure once the primary treatment is under way.
- Early diffuse thinning — where follicles are miniaturising but still present.
- Patients who cannot use standard treatments — for instance where topical minoxidil causes intolerable irritation.
- Scalp condition — where the scalp itself is dry, irritated or in poor condition.
- Maintenance — holding a result achieved by other means.
Conversely, it will not regrow hair where follicles are gone. Long-standing bald areas with no visible fine hair are unlikely to respond to any injectable, and hair transplantation is the honest answer in that situation. We will say so rather than sell you a course that cannot work.
Sessions and Realistic Timelines
A typical course runs to around six to eight sessions, initially every two weeks and then spaced further apart, followed by maintenance. Hair biology sets the pace here, not the treatment: hair grows in cycles, and any intervention takes three to six months before its effect can be judged.
Consequently, patience is essential and photographs help. We take baseline images and compare them, because month-to-month self-assessment in a bathroom mirror is unreliable in both directions. Reduced shedding usually precedes any visible thickening, so that is often the first sign worth watching for.
A Word on Tension and Styling
Traction alopecia is more common than most patients expect, and it is far easier to prevent than to treat. Persistent tension from tight ponytails, buns, braids, extensions, weaves and tightly pinned headscarves pulls on follicles at the hairline and along parting lines. Early on, the loss reverses when the tension is reduced. Left long enough, however, it becomes permanent scarring loss that no injection will restore.
So if your loss is concentrated along the front hairline or in a band where something sits tightly, changing how you secure your hair matters more than any treatment we could offer. We will show you where the pattern is on your own scalp and discuss practical adjustments, including for those who wear a headscarf daily.
Contraindications
Scalp mesotherapy is avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and where there is active scalp infection, folliculitis or an inflammatory scalp condition requiring treatment first. Allergies to any component, bleeding disorders and anticoagulant therapy all need discussing beforehand, as does a keloid tendency. The full list appears on our main mesotherapy page, and a complete history is taken at assessment regardless.
Cost
Because this is a course-based treatment, ask about the total cost of a course plus expected maintenance rather than the price of one session. Pricing depends on the preparation used and the number of sessions. We confirm everything at consultation before booking, and we will also tell you if we think your money is better spent elsewhere in your plan. Call 04 268 8226 for current fees. Note that consultation and blood work for hair loss may be covered by insurance even where the cosmetic treatment is not, so it is worth checking your policy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does hair mesotherapy actually work?
The evidence is weaker and more variable than for minoxidil, oral prescription treatment or PRP. It can be useful as a supportive measure alongside established treatment, and some patients respond well. We would not present it as a standalone solution for pattern hair loss.
Do I really need blood tests first?
We strongly recommend them, yes. Iron deficiency, thyroid dysfunction and hormonal conditions all cause hair loss and all are correctable, and finding one changes your treatment entirely. Injecting a scalp while an underlying deficiency continues is unlikely to help.
How does it compare with PRP?
PRP uses concentrated platelets from your own blood and has a better-established evidence base for hair, particularly in pattern loss. Mesotherapy requires no blood draw and is usually cheaper per session, but it has less behind it. Neither replaces medical treatment where that is indicated.
My hair started falling out after my baby was born. Should I book a course?
Usually not yet. Postpartum shedding is typically telogen effluvium and recovers on its own over six to twelve months. We would check iron and thyroid function, treat anything found, and review in a few months rather than start a course during a phase that generally resolves by itself.
Will it regrow hair on a bald area?
No. Where follicles are no longer present, no injectable treatment will restore hair, and transplantation is the realistic option. Mesotherapy is for thinning areas where follicles remain.
How long before I see a difference?
Three to six months at minimum, because hair grows in cycles. Reduced shedding usually comes before visible thickening. We take baseline photographs so the comparison is objective rather than based on memory.
How many sessions are needed?
Typically six to eight, starting every two weeks and then spacing out, followed by maintenance. Ask about the total cost of the course rather than the per-session price.
Is it painful?
Most patients find it tolerable. The injections are very superficial and the needles fine, though the scalp is more sensitive in some people. Numbing is not usually needed.
Can tight hairstyles and headscarves cause hair loss?
Persistent tension can, yes — it is called traction alopecia and it typically affects the hairline or wherever tension concentrates. Caught early it reverses when the tension is reduced. Left long term it can become permanent, so we will show you the pattern on your scalp and suggest practical adjustments.
Can men have hair mesotherapy?
Yes. Men are frequently treated, though for male pattern loss we would generally establish medical treatment first and use mesotherapy in a supporting role.
Is any of this covered by insurance?
The consultation and blood work for hair loss may be, since that is a medical investigation. The cosmetic treatment itself generally is not. Check the specifics with your insurer and bring your card and Emirates ID.
What are your opening hours?
We are open from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Please book ahead on 04 268 8226.
This page provides general information only and is not medical advice or a diagnosis. Hair loss has multiple causes requiring different treatment, and these can only be distinguished by clinical assessment and appropriate investigation. The evidence for scalp mesotherapy is limited compared with established medical treatments, results vary between individuals, and no outcome can be guaranteed. Mesotherapy cannot restore hair where follicles are no longer present. Sudden, patchy or rapidly progressive hair loss should be assessed promptly rather than treated cosmetically.
