Salmon DNA treatment in Dubai has attracted a great deal of attention over the past few years, and the name alone tends to raise questions. To be clear about what it involves: the treatment uses polynucleotides, which are purified DNA fragments extracted from salmon and processed to remove all protein material. These fragments are placed into the skin to support hydration, elasticity and healing. At Dermabloom Medical Center in Mirdif, Dr Sarah Magdy assesses your skin first, then advises whether polynucleotides are genuinely the right choice for your concern. Why Salmon DNA?
The choice of source surprises most patients, so it is worth explaining. Salmon DNA fragments are structurally very similar to human DNA fragments, which makes them well tolerated in the skin. Additionally, salmon provides a consistent, purified and well-studied source. During manufacturing the material is fractionated and purified extensively, and the protein component — the part responsible for fish allergy — is removed.
Despite that purification, we still ask about fish and seafood allergy at assessment. Reported reactions are rare, but the question costs nothing and it matters. So please tell us if you have any such allergy, even a mild one.
What It Is Meant to Do
Polynucleotides are best understood as a skin quality treatment rather than a volumising or lifting one. In the skin, they are thought to support fibroblast activity, hold water and improve the environment in which skin repairs itself. As a result, patients typically report skin that feels firmer, more hydrated and more resilient over a course.
Concerns It Suits
- Poor skin quality — thin, dull or fragile-feeling skin.
- Loss of elasticity — early laxity and crepey texture, particularly under the eyes.
- Dehydration — skin that stays dry despite a solid routine, which is common in this climate.
- Acne scarring — as part of a combined plan rather than on its own.
- Under-eye area — one of the more popular indications, since the skin there is thin and difficult to treat.
- Post-treatment recovery — supporting the skin after laser or resurfacing, where timing allows.
An Honest Assessment of the Evidence
We want to be measured here, because the marketing around this treatment has run well ahead of the science. The published evidence for polynucleotides is promising, and it is growing. However, much of it comes from relatively small studies, and long-term data remains limited compared with treatments such as microneedling for scarring.
Consequently, here is how we frame it. Polynucleotides are a reasonable option for skin quality, hydration and elasticity, and many patients are pleased with the outcome. They do not, however, repair your own DNA, reverse ageing or produce permanent change — claims we see regularly and which are not supportable. Nor do they replace fillers where genuine volume has been lost. If someone has described this treatment as regenerative in a literal sense, they have oversold it.
Combining Salmon DNA With Dermapen Microneedling
The two treatments pair well, which is why they are frequently offered together. Microneedling creates controlled micro-channels and stimulates collagen production, while polynucleotides support the skin environment in which that repair happens. In practice, therefore, the needling does the structural work and the polynucleotides support recovery and skin quality alongside it.
For acne scarring in particular, this combination often makes more sense than either treatment alone. Nevertheless, combining is not automatically the better route. If your only concern is under-eye crepiness, for example, polynucleotides delivered by fine injection may suit you better without the downtime that needling adds. We will set out which approach fits your case, and you can read more about Dermapen microneedling separately.
How It Differs From Mesotherapy and Fillers
| Salmon DNA (polynucleotides) | Mesotherapy | Dermal filler | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main aim | Skin quality, elasticity, repair support | Hydration and glow | Volume and definition |
| Depth | Into the skin | Superficial, into the skin | Beneath the skin |
| Adds volume? | No | No | Yes |
| Typical course | 3 sessions, then maintenance | 3–4 sessions, then maintenance | Single treatment, repeated when it wears off |
| Evidence base | Promising but still emerging | Reasonable for HA boosters, weaker for vitamin blends | Well established |
See our mesotherapy treatment in Dubai page if hydration and glow are your main goal, since that may be the better value option.
What Happens During Treatment
- Assessment — your concerns, medical history, allergies including fish allergy, medications and previous treatments are reviewed.
- Planning — we agree whether the product is placed by fine injection, delivered with microneedling, or both.
- Numbing — topical anaesthetic is applied and left for around 30 minutes.
- Preparation — the area is cleansed and disinfected thoroughly.
- Treatment — the product is placed evenly across the treatment area.
- Finish — a calming product and SPF are applied, with aftercare instructions.
Allow roughly 45 to 60 minutes including numbing time.
Downtime and Aftercare
Small raised bumps at each injection point are expected, and they are more noticeable with this treatment than with many others. Usually they settle within 24 to 72 hours, though the under-eye area can take slightly longer. Bruising is possible too, particularly around the eyes. Where microneedling is combined, add redness resembling moderate sunburn for one to two days.
For aftercare, leave makeup off for 24 hours. Similarly, avoid the gym, sauna, steam room and swimming for 48 hours, and do not rub or massage the area on the first day. Pause retinoids and acids for several days. Finally, use sunscreen daily without exception, since Dubai’s UV levels will undermine the result otherwise.
How Many Sessions, and When to Expect Results
A course of three sessions spaced two to four weeks apart is typical, with maintenance every six to twelve months afterwards. Results build gradually rather than appearing immediately, so expect visible change from around the second session and continued improvement for some weeks after the course finishes.
Because of the bumps and possible bruising, timing around events needs care. Finish a course at least three to four weeks before an important occasion, and never book a first session in the week before one.
Who Should Avoid It
This treatment is avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Equally, it is not performed on skin with an active infection or inflammatory flare in the treatment area. Fish or seafood allergy needs declaring, as do bleeding disorders, blood-thinning medication, autoimmune conditions and a history of keloid scarring. Recent oral isotretinoin is also relevant to timing. Please disclose everything at assessment, including supplements.
Cost of Salmon DNA Treatment in Dubai
Polynucleotide products are expensive to manufacture, so this sits at the higher end of injectable skin treatments. Pricing depends on the product, the area treated and the number of sessions, and since it is a course treatment, ask about the total rather than one session. We confirm costs at consultation before anything is booked. Please call 04 268 8226. As a cosmetic treatment, it is not covered by insurance.
A word of caution that applies market-wide: be wary of unusually cheap offers. Genuine, registered polynucleotide products have a real cost, and a price well below the market usually indicates something other than a bargain. Always ask which product is being used and to see the packaging.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is salmon DNA treatment?
It uses polynucleotides, which are purified DNA fragments extracted from salmon and processed to remove protein material. These are placed into the skin to support hydration, elasticity and repair. It is a skin quality treatment rather than a volumising one.
Is it safe if I have a fish allergy?
The protein responsible for fish allergy is removed during purification, and reactions are rare. Nevertheless, please declare any fish or seafood allergy at your assessment. We would rather discuss it properly than assume, and in some cases we will advise against treatment.
Does it really repair my skin’s DNA?
No, and that claim is a misunderstanding worth correcting. The polynucleotides act within the skin to support hydration and the repair environment. They do not alter or repair your own DNA. Anyone describing it that way is overstating what the treatment does.
How is it different from filler?
Filler adds volume and definition beneath the skin, whereas polynucleotides improve the quality of the skin itself. So if hollowing or volume loss is your concern, filler is the appropriate treatment instead.
How many sessions will I need?
Three sessions spaced two to four weeks apart is typical, followed by maintenance every six to twelve months. Your specific plan is confirmed at assessment.
What is the downtime?
Small bumps at the injection points are expected and usually settle within 24 to 72 hours. Bruising is possible, especially under the eyes. Where microneedling is combined, add one to two days of redness. Therefore plan events accordingly.
Is it painful?
Topical anaesthetic is applied beforehand, so most patients tolerate it well. You will feel small pricks, and the under-eye area is more sensitive than the cheeks.
When will I see results?
Change is gradual rather than immediate. Most patients notice a difference from around the second session, and improvement continues for several weeks after the course is complete.
Can it be combined with microneedling?
Yes, and the combination often suits acne scarring particularly well. However, it is not always necessary. For under-eye crepiness alone, injection without needling may be the better choice.
Is it safe for brown and darker skin tones?
Yes, generally, since the treatment does not remove the skin surface. Sun protection afterwards remains essential, as with any injectable or needling treatment.
Who cannot have it?
It is avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding, and on skin with active infection or inflammation. Fish allergy, bleeding disorders, blood-thinning medication, autoimmune conditions, keloid tendency and recent oral isotretinoin all need discussing first.
How much does it cost in Dubai?
It sits at the higher end of injectable skin treatments, because the products are costly to manufacture. Pricing depends on the product, area and course length, so ask about the total. Call 04 268 8226 for current fees.
What are your opening hours?
We are open from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Please book ahead on 04 268 8226, since these appointments include numbing time.
This page provides general information only and is not medical advice. Suitability is determined at an in-clinic assessment. Polynucleotide treatment carries risks including bumps, swelling, bruising, infection and allergic reaction, and results vary between individuals. No outcome can be guaranteed. The evidence base for polynucleotides is still developing, and this treatment does not add volume, lift the face or alter your own DNA.
