RF microneedling in Dubai is the treatment we most often recommend when a patient wants improvement in both skin texture and mild firmness, because it addresses the two together. Standard microneedling works mechanically; RF microneedling adds controlled heat delivered into the dermis through the needles themselves. Consequently it reaches deeper and does more for laxity, though it also asks more of you in downtime and cost. At Dermabloom Medical Center in Mirdif, Dr Sarah Magdy assesses whether it is the right choice before recommending it. To discuss your skin, call 04 268 8226 or message us on WhatsApp at +971 56 598 6039.
How It Differs From Standard Microneedling
The needles do two jobs rather than one. As they enter the skin, they create the same micro-channels as ordinary microneedling. Simultaneously, however, radiofrequency energy passes through the needle tips into the dermis, producing small, controlled zones of thermal effect at a chosen depth.
That thermal component is the whole point. Heat causes existing collagen to contract in the short term and prompts new collagen and elastin production over the following months. Meanwhile, because the energy is delivered from within the skin rather than through its surface, the epidermis is largely spared — which matters considerably for patients with medium and darker skin tones.
| Standard microneedling | RF microneedling | |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Mechanical injury only | Mechanical injury plus dermal heating |
| Best for | Texture, pores, superficial scarring | Scarring plus mild to moderate laxity |
| Depth reached | Shallower | Deeper, with adjustable energy |
| Downtime | 1–2 days redness | 2–4 days redness, possible grid marks |
| Sessions | 3–6 | Usually 3, spaced further apart |
| Cost | Moderate | Higher |
If laxity is not among your concerns, standard Dermapen microneedling may achieve what you want for less money and less downtime. We will say so if that applies.
What It Treats
- Acne scarring — particularly atrophic rolling and boxcar scars, where the combination of needling and dermal heating performs well.
- Mild to moderate skin laxity — along the jawline, cheeks and under the chin.
- Enlarged pores and uneven texture — often improving alongside the other changes.
- Fine lines and early crepiness — including the neck, treated with appropriate caution.
- Stretch marks and body scarring — on suitable areas, with realistic expectations.
- Post-acne texture — where the active acne has already been medically controlled.
What It Will Not Do
Being clear about the ceiling matters more than listing benefits, so here it is. RF microneedling tightens skin modestly. It does not lift, and it is not a non-surgical facelift regardless of how it is marketed elsewhere in this city. Where there is significant descent of tissue or substantial excess skin, a surgical opinion is the honest answer rather than a course of energy treatment.
Similarly, it does not restore lost volume. Where hollowing is the underlying issue, filler addresses that and tightening does not. Deep ice-pick acne scars also respond poorly, since their geometry suits other techniques better. We would rather set that out before you commit to a course than have you disappointed at the end of one.
Suitability, Skin Tone and a Risk Worth Knowing
Because the epidermis is largely spared, RF microneedling is generally considered a safer option for medium and darker skin tones than ablative laser resurfacing. Post-inflammatory pigmentation remains possible nonetheless, so we treat conservatively and require diligent sun protection afterwards.
There is also a less commonly discussed risk that patients deserve to hear about: excessive energy or inappropriate depth in areas with little subcutaneous fat can cause localised fat loss, which shows as a hollow or contour irregularity. This is uncommon with careful settings and appropriate patient selection, and it is a genuine reason to be cautious about aggressive protocols and about very slim faces. Consequently, we favour conservative parameters over dramatic single-session promises.
Who Cannot Have This Treatment
RF microneedling carries contraindications that ordinary microneedling does not, and these are absolute rather than cautionary. Please tell us if any apply.
- Implanted electronic devices — pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, neurostimulators and cochlear implants. Radiofrequency energy can interfere with these.
- Metal implants or plates in the treatment area — including dental implants close to the treatment zone, which need discussing.
- Thread lifts or permanent filler in the area — previous thread lifts in particular need to be declared, as heating over threads is inadvisable.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Active infection or inflammatory acne flare in the area being treated.
Additionally, the following require discussion before proceeding: keloid or hypertrophic scarring tendency, bleeding disorders and anticoagulant therapy, immunosuppression, active autoimmune disease, uncontrolled diabetes, a history of cold sores in the treatment area, and recent systemic isotretinoin. A full medication and supplement history is taken at assessment.
What Happens During Treatment
- Assessment — your concerns, skin type, medical history, implants, medications and previous treatments are reviewed, and suitability confirmed.
- Consent — expected benefit, downtime, risks and the realistic ceiling are explained before you agree to proceed.
- Numbing — topical anaesthetic is applied and left for around 45 to 60 minutes, since this treatment requires more numbing than standard needling.
- Preparation — the skin is cleansed and disinfected, and settings are selected by zone.
- Treatment — the handpiece is applied in a systematic pattern, with depth and energy adjusted by area. Expect around 30 to 45 minutes of treatment time.
- Post-treatment — cooling, a calming layer and SPF, with written aftercare.
Allow roughly 90 minutes in the clinic in total, including numbing.
Downtime and Aftercare
Downtime here is more substantial than with standard microneedling, so plan for it properly. Expect redness and warmth for two to four days, with swelling most noticeable on the first morning after treatment. Small grid-pattern marks corresponding to the needle points are common and usually fade within a few days. Dryness and light flaking often follow in the following week.
For aftercare, keep makeup off for 24 to 48 hours. Furthermore, avoid the gym, sauna, steam room and swimming for 72 hours, since heat and sweat on treated skin risk irritation. Pause retinoids, acids and vitamin C for around a week. Sleep slightly elevated on the first night if swelling bothers you. Finally, sun protection is absolutely non-negotiable for several weeks, because treated skin in Dubai’s UV conditions pigments readily and that is the most common avoidable complication we see.
Sessions, Timeline and Realistic Expectations
Three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is the usual course, with some patients needing more for established scarring. The tightening effect from collagen contraction is modest and early; the meaningful improvement comes from new collagen forming over the following months.
Accordingly, judge the result at three to six months rather than three weeks. Patients who expect visible change immediately after the first session are usually disappointed, whereas those who reassess at four months are frequently pleased. For weddings and events, finish a course at least two months beforehand, and never schedule a session within a month of the date.
Cost
RF microneedling sits above standard microneedling in price, reflecting the device, the consumable tips and the longer appointment. Pricing depends on the areas treated and the number of sessions, and since this is a course treatment we quote the course rather than a single session. We confirm everything before booking. Call 04 268 8226 for current fees. As a cosmetic treatment, it is not covered by insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is RF microneedling painful?
It is more uncomfortable than standard microneedling, which is why we numb for longer. With adequate topical anaesthetic most patients tolerate it well, describing heat and pressure rather than sharp pain. Bony areas such as the forehead and jawline are the most noticeable.
How is it different from ordinary microneedling?
Both create micro-channels, but RF microneedling additionally delivers heat into the dermis through the needles. That thermal element is what allows it to address mild laxity as well as texture and scarring. If laxity is not a concern for you, standard needling may be sufficient and cheaper.
Will it tighten my jawline?
It can produce modest improvement in mild to moderate laxity along the jawline. However, it will not lift significantly descended tissue, and it is not an alternative to surgery where there is substantial excess skin. We will tell you honestly which category you fall into.
Can I have it with a pacemaker?
No. Implanted electronic devices including pacemakers, defibrillators, neurostimulators and cochlear implants are a contraindication, because radiofrequency energy can interfere with them. Please declare any implanted device at assessment.
I have had a thread lift. Can I still have RF microneedling?
You must tell us. Heating over previously placed threads is inadvisable, and permanent filler in the area also needs discussing. Bring details of what was placed and when if you have them.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually three, spaced four to six weeks apart, with some patients needing more for established acne scarring. Your plan is confirmed after assessment.
When will I see results?
An early tightening effect appears within weeks, but the meaningful improvement builds over three to six months as new collagen forms. Judge the outcome at four months rather than four weeks.
What is the downtime really like?
Redness and warmth for two to four days, swelling most noticeable the morning after, and small grid marks that fade within days. Dryness and light flaking often follow the next week. It is more downtime than standard needling, so plan around it.
Is it safe for brown and darker skin tones?
It is generally considered safer than ablative laser for deeper skin tones, since the epidermis is largely spared. Post-inflammatory pigmentation is still possible though, so we use conservative settings and insist on strict sun protection afterwards.
Can it cause facial fat loss?
Uncommonly, yes — excessive energy or inappropriate depth in areas with little subcutaneous fat can cause localised fat loss. Careful settings and appropriate patient selection make this unlikely, and it is a reason we avoid aggressive protocols, particularly on very slim faces.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Often yes, with appropriate intervals. Toxin, filler, polynucleotides and peels can all form part of a plan, though we sequence them deliberately rather than performing several at once.
What are your opening hours?
We are open from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Please book ahead on 04 268 8226, since these appointments include extended numbing time.
This page provides general information only and is not medical advice or a diagnosis. Suitability, device settings and treatment depth are determined at an in-clinic assessment. RF microneedling carries risks including prolonged redness, swelling, grid marks, blistering, infection, pigment change, scarring and, uncommonly, localised fat loss. It is contraindicated with implanted electronic devices such as pacemakers, and with metal or thread implants in the treatment area. Results vary between individuals, no outcome can be guaranteed, and this treatment is not a substitute for surgical lifting where significant skin laxity is present.
