Exosomes in One Paragraph
Cells communicate by releasing tiny packages into their surroundings. Those packages, called exosomes, carry proteins, lipids and genetic messengers, and their job is to pass instructions to neighbouring cells. Aesthetic medicine borrows that mechanism: if you apply exosomes carrying repair-associated signals to skin that is already healing, the reasoning goes, the repair may go better. Notably, exosomes are not cells and contain no cells. That single fact rules out most of the more dramatic marketing you will encounter.
The Regulatory Picture, Stated Plainly
This is the part other clinic websites tend to omit, so we will be direct about it. Exosome products for aesthetic use sit in a genuinely unsettled regulatory space internationally. Several health authorities have issued warnings about unapproved exosome products being marketed for cosmetic purposes, and adverse events have been reported where unregulated material was used.
What follows from that is practical rather than alarming. A clinic offering exosomes should be able to name the product, state its source, and confirm it is registered for use in this market. If a clinic cannot or will not answer those three questions, that tells you what you need to know. Not All Exosomes Are the Same Thing

Because these categories are regulated so differently, “exosome treatment” on a price list tells you almost nothing on its own. Consequently, asking about the source is not a technical quibble — it is the single most informative question you can put to a clinic.
How They Are Applied
Exosomes are large molecules, and intact skin is an effective barrier, so applying them to unbroken skin achieves very little. For that reason they are almost always used immediately after a procedure that creates temporary channels in the skin — most commonly microneedling, sometimes after certain laser treatments. The product is applied topically while those channels remain open, since they close within hours.

If you are considering that route, ask specifically whether the product is approved for injection in the UAE, because approval for topical use does not imply approval for injection.

Worth noting from that table: the newest and most expensive option is not the best-evidenced one. PRP uses your own blood and has a longer clinical track record, particularly for hair loss. Meanwhile, our salmon DNA page covers polynucleotides if skin quality is your main concern.
What the Evidence Does and Does Not Show
Laboratory work on exosomes is genuinely interesting, and early clinical reports on post-procedure recovery are reasonably encouraging. Redness settling faster after microneedling is the most plausible benefit described so far.
However, the limitations are significant and worth stating. Human studies remain small in number and size. Products differ enormously between suppliers, which makes findings hard to generalise. Long-term safety and efficacy data does not yet exist in any depth. Therefore we describe exosomes as a promising adjunct rather than a proven treatment, and we do not present them as an alternative to the procedure they accompany.
On Hair Loss Specifically
Exosomes are increasingly promoted for hair thinning, and enquiries about this have risen sharply. Our position is cautious. The evidence for exosomes in hair loss is early, whereas PRP and established medical treatments have considerably more behind them.
More fundamentally, though, hair loss has causes that need identifying before anything is injected into a scalp. Iron deficiency, thyroid dysfunction, hormonal change, nutritional gaps, medication effects, stress and genetic pattern loss all present similarly yet require different management. Treating the scalp without establishing the cause is expensive guesswork. So we recommend a dermatology consultation first, usually with blood work, before any scalp treatment is planned.
Questions to Ask Before You Book Anywhere
- Which product is it, and may I see the packaging? A reasonable request, and easily met by a clinic with nothing to hide.
- What is the source? Plant, salmon or human-derived, given how differently these are regulated.
- Is it registered for use in the UAE? Personally imported or unregistered material is a red flag.
- Is it applied topically or injected? And if injected, is that route approved for this product?
- What is the exosome component adding? You should be told what the base procedure achieves on its own.
- Who is performing the treatment? The individual, their qualification and their experience.
- Why is your price what it is? A quote far below the market is a warning, not a bargain.
Why Prices Vary So Much
Patients often ask why one clinic charges several times another for what appears to be the same treatment, and the answer is usually straightforward. Product quality, source, registration status and concentration all differ substantially. Additionally, some quoted prices include the underlying procedure while others charge that separately. Occasionally, a very low price reflects material that should not be in use at all.
Accordingly, compare like with like. Ask what product, what quantity, how many sessions, and whether the microneedling is included in the figure quoted.
Who It Suits, and Who Should Skip It
Exosomes may be worth considering if you are already having microneedling, want the smoothest possible recovery, have sensitive skin that reacts to procedures, and are comfortable paying a premium for a benefit that is plausible rather than proven.
By contrast, we would suggest skipping it if your budget is limited, since additional microneedling sessions will likely do more for the same money. Similarly, skip it if you are hoping for regeneration, lifting or a transformation, because none of that is on offer. Anyone who has been promised those outcomes has been misled.

Are exosomes approved for aesthetic use?
The position varies considerably between markets, and several authorities have warned about unapproved exosome products marketed cosmetically. What matters for you is the specific product a clinic holds and whether it is registered for use here. Ask that question directly, and ask to see the packaging.
Are exosomes stem cells?
No. Exosomes are vesicles released by cells, and they contain no cells at all. Marketing that calls this stem cell therapy is inaccurate, whichever clinic is saying it.
How do exosomes compare with PRP?
PRP uses concentrated platelets from your own blood, so there is no external product involved, and its evidence base is better established, particularly for hair. Exosomes require no blood draw but cost considerably more and have less evidence behind them. Neither is universally better.
How do they compare with salmon DNA?
Both are relatively new. Polynucleotides are usually chosen for skin quality and elasticity, especially under the eyes, whereas exosomes are typically used as an adjunct to support recovery after a procedure. They are not interchangeable, and an assessment will indicate which fits your concern.
Do exosomes work for hair loss?

The downtime comes from the accompanying procedure rather than the exosomes. After microneedling, expect redness resembling moderate sunburn for 24 to 48 hours, sometimes with light flaking afterwards.
Who should not have exosome treatment?
Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, and anyone with an active skin infection or inflammatory flare in the treatment area. Immunosuppression, active autoimmune disease, bleeding disorders, blood-thinning medication, keloid tendency and recent oral isotretinoin all need discussing beforehand.
Would you recommend it to me?
